George "Russ" Collett Named Superintendent of Hampshire County Schools
The Hampshire County Board of Education is excited to share that George "Russ" Collett has been named the new Superintendent of Hampshire County Schools. He will begin his new role on July 1, 2025. Collett brings many years of experience and a strong background in leading schools and school systems.
Before this appointment, Collett worked as the Assistant Superintendent and Director of Personnel for Upshur County Schools in West Virginia. In that role, he helped manage staff and supported the daily operations of the school district.
The Board believes that Collett's knowledge and dedication to students and schools will be a great benefit to Hampshire County. His leadership is expected to bring new ideas and continued success for our schools.
We invite everyone to welcome Mr. Collett to Hampshire County and support him as he works to improve learning for all students.


Staff will report for a Curriculum Day on Monday, March 17. Students do not have school.

Students entering 12th grade for 2025-2026 school year are required to have a 2nd Meningitis vaccine.
The Health Department will be at H.H.S. on March 27th and April 29th to give vaccines with parent/guardian consent. Forms will be sent home with those students who need the shot or are available from the school nurse.

Hampshire County Schools will hold two public hearings to collect comments on the 2025-2026 school calendar as required by West Virginia code. The first hearing will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 6:00 pm at Romney Middle School and the second hearing will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025 at 6:30 pm at the central office in Romney. If for any reasons these meetings are cancelled due to inclement weather, then the calendar hearing will be held whenever the meeting is rescheduled. The WV Advisory Council for the Education of Exceptional Children (WVACEEC) is hosting a Virtual Resource on the evening of February 13, 2025, from 6-8 pm.
This event is free and is packed with helpful information for parents, families, and educators of exception children.

All Hampshire County Schools are now closed today, Thursday, January 23, for a Non-Tradtional Instructional Day. Students are to complete a snow packet or log into Schoology for assignments. Staff is to report to their school at 9 AM.

Outgoing Governor Justice has awarded $50,000 to each of Hampshire County's 3 new elementary schools for playground equipment and $47,000 to establish a vet surgi-center at HHS.
