Communities In Schools: Connecting Students to Success

Communities In Schools (CIS) is making a difference every day in Hampshire County Schools by surrounding students with a network of support that helps them stay in school and achieve in life. From removing barriers to learning, like access to clothing, food, or school supplies, to building strong relationships that encourage attendance and engagement, CIS is helping students academically, socially, and emotionally.

Through the Keep the Ball Rolling initiative, each Hampshire County school received $1,500 to support students’ individual needs and strengthen attendance efforts. This funding helps ensure that every student has the resources and encouragement needed to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Hampshire County Schools was proudly represented last week at a local Keep the Ball Rolling event at Keyser High School by:
🏫 Cynthia Morris (SBE)
🏫 Jacqueline McCartney (CBMS)
🏫 Sabrina Dean (RMS)
🏫 Kacey Wolford (IME)
🏫 Stephanie Buckley (CBE)
🏫 Allison McCormick (WRE)
and Emilie Embrey, Director of Student Support Services, representing Hampshire High School.

We are thankful for the ongoing leadership of Cynthia Corbin, CIS Site Coordinator, whose commitment ensures that our students are supported, connected, and inspired to reach their goals.

Last week's event was made possible through the partnership of the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE), Communities In Schools (CIS), and generous sponsors including The Pack Foundation, Wing 2 Wing Foundation, United Way, and L&S Toyota of Beckley—all working together to create brighter futures for West Virginia students.

September 2, 2025 Regular Board Meeting 6:30PM Augusta WV
Wednesday, representatives from every Hampshire County school came together for hands-on training to strengthen our commitment to student and staff safety. Teams practiced Stop & Think Drills, which are short, scenario-based exercises that help staff pause, think through a situation, and practice how they would respond in a real emergency.

By working through situations such as medical events, intruders, or severe weather, our Safety Teams build confidence and consistency in how we protect students. With teachers, service staff, counselors, PRO officers, and community members all involved, Hampshire County Schools is united in creating safe learning environments for every child. 💙💛
