Guidelines for Keeping Sick Children Home

Keep your child home if:

  • They are vomiting.

  • They have a rash, lice, or nits.

  • They have diarrhea.

  • They have an eye infection.

  • They have a sore throat and/or a new cough.

  • They have a fever, chills, and/or muscle pain.

  • Any loss of taste and/or smell.

Special needs and medically fragile children need you to keep your sick child at home. When your child is sick, do not intentionally expose them to others.

Parent/Guardian Vaccination Reminders:

Vaccine requirements remain in place for Pre-K, 7th  and 12th graders. (see Immunization Information). Vaccine updates are required prior to the beginning of school in August.  Parents of students entering Preschool, Kindergarten, 7th Grade, and 12th Grade are required to show proof of required vaccines prior to the first day of school in the Fall of 2023. If your child does not have the required vaccines completed by the first day of school, they will be excluded from school unexcused until vaccines are up to date per state policy. Vaccines can be obtained from your child's healthcare provider or the The Hampshire County Health Dept.  Paper copies or faxed copies of the vaccination updates can be sent to your child's school the week before classes begin. The Hampshire County Health Department is located at 16189 Northwestern Pike just west of Augusta, WV. They regularly vaccinate on Mondays - Fridays from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm by appointment only. They will be open until 6pm on the first and third Monday nights of each month through October 6th. The phone number is 304-496-9640.

The COVID vaccine is an optional vaccine being offered to students 12 and older.  Please call the County Health Dept. or  your child's healthcare provider with questions or to schedule an appointment for you child.

Both a physical and dental exam are required prior to the child's first school entry into PreK or Kindergarten. Those are recommended, but not required, yearly with copies sent to school for students entering 2nd, 7th and 12th grade.

Parents/Guardians and students, as we all  work together to ensure we have a successful Back to School experience, please review the following:

These must be completed each year and updated whenever anything changes. Included on the Emergency Procedure Card is contact information for family, a list of the only persons who can pick up the student from school, early dismissal instructions and basic medical and health information.
